  • Expression of Interest are invited for Research Study on Existing Innovative Assistive Technology and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Based Materials Facilitating Access to Learning Targeting Learners with Disabilities in Rwanda. A Background and Context The Inclusive Education Initiative (IEI) is a Multi-Donor Trust Fund managed by the World Bank, with funding from the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). The objective of the IEI is to improve the educational participation and learning outcomes of children with disabilities. The Government of Rwanda ratified the Marrakesh in 2020 as specified in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Rwanda n° 27 of 07/09/2020 and the law approving the accession of Rwanda to the Marrakesh Treaty N° 013/2020 of 07/09/2020. It comes as an important solution to facilitate access to published works to persons who are blind, visually impaired, or otherwise print disabled persons. It provides the exchange of books in accessible formats across international borders by organizations that serve people with visual impairment. Students with print disabilities including those who are blind and visually impaired, those with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, and mobility impairments preventing them from holding a book have limited access to books and learning materials in accessible formats to read and study. These students, including children with multiple disabilities, face many barriers to success due to practices and resources in schools that are not designed to foster independence and skills building.
